Both IGN’s Filmforce and Latino Review are reporting what soon the whole world will know — “Barbershop” veteran and USC alumni Tim Story has been tapped to direct the story of comics’ first family. Many are taking this as an indication that the film will be a comedy, looking at Story’s track record and the new movies he has coming out, including “Taxi” with Queen Latifah and Jimmy Fallon and “Sick Day” with Chris Rock. Location casting is underway, and shooting is slated to begin in August.
“Hellboy” producer Lloyd Levin told The Chicago Sun-Times “We’re going to do ‘The Watchmen.’ It’s about a group of superheroes who reunite to figure out who is trying to kill them off. It’s really a unique story because it deals with the spiritual aspect of being a superhero.” Thanks to faithful reader Ricardo D. Martins for pointing that out.

You read right — About.com talked to Gail Anne Hurd and Avi Arad about a gamma-powered sequel. “Right now we are meeting with writers to discuss the sequel. I think the key thing is come up with the right story,” Hurd said. “It’s going to be Hulk-lite,” Arad said of plans for the follow up. “It’ll be the end of movie one, the beginning of movie two. Now he’s come to terms with his life and who he is and we can let him be now Hulk the hero. Movie one seemed to have been tough on some people, but some of us think it is one of the more courageous depictions of a comic book character.”
About.com was busy — they also talked to “Alias” star Jennifer Garner about her upcoming ninja-themed spin-off, which takes place after her apparent demise in “Daredevil.” “I trained after the junket last night [for “13 Going On 30″] and got up this morning and will go again tonight and I’m loving it. I love that aspect of it. I don’t know if it’s because of dance, but we’ve added in pilates because I need to add the flexibility. I’m just loving that. I’m working with my sai guy because the sais are my swords.” Garner also noted a return to the classic red pajama look is coming.

German movie site Screenland Movieworld has a synopsis of the plot for the horror adaptation … but it’s in German. The kids at Superhero Hype lucked into a fan translation, which reads, “Kyle Williams saw his return as a sheriff to his hometown of Baywater as a career opportunity. What he couldn’t have foreseen was the reawakening of an ancient power in the swampy river branch – a power as old and horrible as the swamp itself. A spirit called ‘Mantokwe’ by the natives — the MAN-THING. Frederick Schist, owner of a resident oil firm, has lied and betrayed the local natives — and is now exploiting their land. To cover up his machinations, he has killed two men and left their bodies to the swamp. Kyle must now choose between what is right and a career supported by Schist’s great influence and power. He must find the power to face his past, the demonic MAN-THING and survive …”
