The film adaptation of "Ready Player One" is still more than two years away, but The Wrap shared an early casting report on Tuesday. According to the outlet, Elle Fanning, Olivia Cooke and Lola Kirke are all on the shortlist to play the female lead in the upcoming Steven Spielberg directorial effort.

All three are reportedly test for the role of "gunter" (egg hunter) Art3mis. Fanning is known for her work in "Super 8," "Maleficent" and the upcoming "About Ray;" Cooke plays Emma on "Bates Motel" and co-starred in acclaimed indie film "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl;" Kirke has a main role in Amazon's "Mozart in the Jungle" and appeared in a supporting role in "Gone Girl." The Wrap states that it's "early in the casting process," and there's still no indication of who may play the story's male lead, Wade. Also on Tuesday, The Wrap reported was also on the shortlist for the female lead role in "Star Wars: Episode VIII."

"Ready Player One" is based on the acclaimed 2011 young adult novel of the same name, written by Ernest Cline. The film is scheduled for release on Dec. 15, 2017.
