Fairytales Make A Comeback In Hollywood

The next big trend in Hollywood? It just may be for live action movies based on fairy tales, aimed at older audiences. After the success of Alice In Wonderland, get ready for a monster movie Red Riding Hood and an updated version of Cinderella.

With Tim Burton’s 3D visual cornucopia Alice earning $980 million worldwide, it’s no surprise that studios are picking up the ball previously left for the likes of Syfy Original Mini-Series. First up will be Red Riding Hood (formerly The Girl In The Red Riding Hood), what’s been called a “gothic adaptation” of the familiar story, directed by Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, which is already set for an April 2011 release. Now, Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Disney has paid a seven-figure sum for a new take on Cinderella by the writer of The Devil Wears Prada, Aline Brosh McKenna (No word yet on the concept behind the new version, nor on whether it’ll follow Alice into a large-scale, 3D IMAX, direction). But what’s next? Surely Snow White can’t be that far behind?
