Following the conclusion of the Edge of Venomverse anthology miniseries in August, Venomverse will launch in September. Labeled “the biggest Venom story of all time” by editor Devin Lewis, the series is designed to bring Eddie Brock back to the forefront of the Spider-Man universe, though whether it’s as a hero, villain or something else entirely hasn't been made 100% clear.

Today, CBR has the exclusive first look at the incoming miniseries, along with the announcement that artist Iban Coello and colorist Matt Yackey will be bringing Bunn's story to life. And while it's not completely clear, the first few pages from the miniseries make it appear as though Eddie is ready to live up to is "Lethal Protector" nickname at the expense of one of Spider-Man's old foes, Jack O'Lantern.

"Eddie and the symbiote are really the perfect pairing, two pieces of a well-oiled machine," Bunn told CBR in a recent interview. "There may not be a better host/symbiote relationship. They are the picture of a perfect union, and we’ll explore that a bit. We’re going to be looking into the characteristics that make Eddie the perfect Venom. He’s not a good person, but the protagonists of this story need someone just like Eddie if they hope to survive."

Of course, while he's at the center of the story, Venomverse involves more than just Eddie Brock -- there's a veritable legion of symbiote-bonded characters poised to take their place on the stage that is the Marvel Universe, and Bunn is looking forward to it. "One of the things I love about the symbiote/host relationship is that you can see how Venom enhances different personalities and different abilities. I feel like all the characters are pretty unique. I also love how each character reacts differently to the grim circumstances they are facing."

Venomverse #1 arrives in September from the creative team of Cullen Bunn and Iban Coello.
