Writer Scott Snyder continues to keep his collaborators close as he kicks off his next major Batman story.
DC Comics revealed today to CBR News a first look at the variant cover for “Batman” #21 – the first part of Snyder and partner Greg Capullo’s “Zero Year” reimagining of the Dark Knight’s origins -Â as drawn by Jock. The book ships to comic shops on June 12 with backups co-written by James Tynion IV and drawn by Rafael Albuquerque.
None of the creative team from the variant cover on through the final pages are strangers to Batman’s world as Jock has been contributing art to backups for Snyder’s New 52 run practically since the artist helped start the writer’s Batman career in their “Black Mirror” story for “Detective Comics.”
For “Zero Year,” Snyder told CBR that “I had this story in mind that I wanted to do for a while that’s an earlier story that shows Batman’s first adventures as Batman in a way that’s totally different than anything you’ve seen. I know it sounds corny, but it’s true…It keeps the core stuff there — Joe Chill, the alley, the bat, the absolute core things — but everything else on the book is something you have never, ever seen.”
Stay tuned for more on CBR about “Zero Year.”
