Acclaimed writer/artist Jeff Lemire has focused on the verbal side of his talents for current DC Comics series "Justice League United," but he's taking on the familiar position of illustrator for a variant to issue #3 of the series, scheduled out in July. The cover depicts Equinox, the Cree superhero Lemire created for the series, and CBR has the exclusive first look at the image.

"Creating a teenage female superhero was interesting to me because, generally, most superheroes are white males," Lemire told CBC News in March. "We need diversity and we need different personalities. You need very distinct voices for personalities on the team or else you just start writing the same character in a different costume."

"Justice League United" #3, illustrated by series artist Mike McKone, is scheduled for release on July 9.
