The Scarlet Spider costume was one of the most iconic designs of the 1990s. J. Scott Campbell is a prominent artist that broke out with "Gen 13," one of the archetypal '90s superhero comics series. So if it seemed like a J. Scott Campbell-illustrated variant cover for the upcoming "Ben Reilly: The Scarlet Spider" #1 was a no-brainer, it looks like Marvel agreed, and CBR has the exclusive first look.

Notably, it's Ben Reilly back in the classic Scarlet Spider costume. When the new "Scarlet Spider" series was first announced back in January, Reilly was depicted in a new costume, designed by series artist Mark Bagley. Later, it was clarified that the blue hoodie would return by the end of the series' first arc.

The "Ben Reilly: The Scarlet Spider" ongoing series is scheduled to debut in April, from writer Peter David and artist Mark Bagley. The book will pick up where "Clone Conspiracy" left off, which saw -- spoiler alert! -- Ben Reilly not only back from the dead, but in a villainous role, as the new version of The Jackal.

"He has his Scarlet Spider identity on one shoulder, urging him to follow his better angels, and the Jackal on the other hand, trying to get him to return to the path that led him to disaster," David told CBR in January. "He’s trapped in the middle, endeavoring to balance the two. Of all the characters I’ve written who are having identity problems -- and God knows, I’ve done a few — Ben is easily the most unhinged."

"Ben Reilly: The Scarlet Spider" #1 is scheduled for release on April 26.
