As announced in September, this Halloween finds more than thirty artists joining Mondo, Alamo Drafthouse’s collectible art boutique, in celebrating EC Comics and its most famous series, “Tales from the Crypt.” A who’s who of current pop artists will have their work displayed at the Mondo Gallery in Austin, Texas from Oct. 25 through Nov. 23, including Jeff Lemire, Jim Rugg, William Stout, Bruce White and more.
In advance of the show opening, Mondo has provided CBR with an exclusive first look at two pieces participating in the event, one by artist Mark Todd, and the other by Eisner Award-winner and fan-favorite comics artist Francesco Francavilla.
Official Press Release
Mondo will celebrate EC Comics & Tales From The Crypt this Halloween with a gallery show that will run from October 25 through November 23. Thirty-plus artists will honor one of the greatest horror television shows of all time and its origins in EC Comics, which produced some of the most original and striking horror artwork, inspiring a generation of artists and genre fans. The gallery show will feature original works of art and blood-drenched screen prints.
The gallery opening on Friday, October 25 will be from 7:00 – 10:00pm with regular hours to follow for the show’s duration. The Mondo Gallery is located at 4115 Guadalupe St. in Austin, TX.
“I care about EC Comics very much. Even though I wasn’t around when it was originally published, the HBO Tales From The Crypt was an amazing intro into a demented world of darkly comedic horror stories and vivid artwork. EC Comics’ editor Bill Gaines is one of my heroes and it’s so incredibly exciting to combine his creations with thirty something artists that are also fans of that era,” said Mondo CEO Justin Ishmael.
