Though his debut was short and ended with his death, Darth Maul proved to be a popular – perhaps the most popular – aspect of “Star Wars: Episode 1.” It’s little surprise, then, that the Sith Lord’s scarlet, horned visage was resurrected for the animated “Clone Wars” series, and perhaps even less of a surprise that Marvel Comics has turned to the character as the subject of a new comic series.
Debuting in February, Cullen Bunn and Luke Ross will offer fans a new tale of the evil warrior, and joining them with a variant cover for the first issue is acclaimed artist Mark Brooks. Today, cBR ha the exclusive first look at Brook’s cover, depicting Maul as he swoops down on unsuspecting victims.
In addition to the variant, CBR has the first look at several of Ross’ pages from the comic itself. The action sequence, which finds the titular character battling what appears to be several Rathtars, singlehandedly.
Of course, the many-toothed creatures won’t be the only things Maul faces. There will be a sweet supporting cast for this book. “In addition to Darth Sidious, we’ll be seeing some other faces that are familiar to Star Wars fans,” Bunn told CBR in a recent interview. “In some cases, we’re seeing some characters who have appeared in other comics. In others, we’re seeing some characters who haven’t appeared in the comics before. I’m also creating some new characters, not the least of which is Eldra Kaitis, the Jedi Padawan who draws Maul’s ire.”
Marvel Comics’ “Darth Maul” #1 arrives in February from writer Cullen Bunn and artist Luke Ross.
