Alex Garland's directorial debut Ex Machina doesn't come out until April, but it's already getting the writer-director more gigs.

Variety reports the writer of such films as 28 Days Later... and Dredd will pull double duty on Annihilation for Paramount Pictures.

The film is based on Jeff VanderMeer's trilogy The Southern Reach, which consists of Annihilation, Authority and Acceptance. The novel follows a quartet of female scientists exploring a walled-off part of the country called Area X that has incredible new forms of life growing inside after 30 years of seclusion. Unfortunately for this group of explorers, the odds of success are low as the previous 11 suffered from mass suicides, cancer and other maladies.

Garland's Ex Machina hits theaters on April 10, 2015.
