Evil lives again in the new trailer for Evil Dead.
Let’s preface this by saying you shouldn’t click on the above video if you are under the age of 17, have a queasy stomach or generally just don’t like horror. But we’re not your parents, and we personally loved the red-band trailer released for the forthcoming Evil Dead remake.
Tuesday’s teaser for the trailer did the movie proud when it showed the reactions of the New York Comic Con audience members who first saw this video. Our faces echoed theirs as we watched the horrible, terrible things that happen to these unsuspecting teens after they opened and read from the Book of the Dead.
Well, as we can see in the trailer, they were warned. We were, too, but we still weren’t quite prepared for how awesome Evil Dead looks. It very much feels true to the spirit of the original movie and, yes, we even to get to see a glimpse of a recreation of the classic tree rape scene from The Evil Dead.
Evil Dead is a new twist on the cult-classic story, and one that producer Bruce Campbell is really proud of. He’s been a repeated supporter of the project, even going as far as to say it has both his and Sam Raimi’s stamps of approval.
“We want to custom make it for fans. We’re not some random cigar-chomping producer looking for a horror movie to remake. This is our baby,” he told Machinima. “I can’t wait. I want people to see it. I’m dying.”
Campbell continued, “The movie’s not funny. The movie is old-fashioned, retro horror. There’s not a snappy line in the whole movie. The first movie wasn’t like that, and this is a remake of the first movie, so he’s really just matching the tone of the first movie, which is not, ‘Hardy har har.’”
We can definitely see that there aren’t many laughs to be had in this trailer. Spinoff recently attended the Evil Dead panel at NYCC, so if you’re still craving more goodied from the movie after this trailer, head on over there.
Directed by Fede Alvarez and starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez and Jessica Lucas, Evil Dead opens April 12, 2013.
