Readers have yet to officially meet The Dawnbreaker, aka the evil Batman/Green Lantern hybrid from the Dark Multiverse, but as we're learning little by little, he's a pretty terrible guy.

Now, thanks to a new preview released by DC Comics, we see not only how horrific the character is, we're also treated to a glimpse of how he became the super-powered terror destined to face the Justice League in Dark Nights: Metal #2 and beyond.

Though unlettered, the first look at Sam Humphries and Ethan Van Sciver's Batman: The Dawnbreaker one-shot presents the origin story of the character. While he does appear to be Bruce Wayne, and his parents were also shot and killed in Gotham City's Crime Alley, the similarities with the real Batman end there. This Bruce is chosen by a Green Lantern ring immediately following his Martha and Thomas' murder, and the young man chooses to use his new power to immediately incinerate Joe Chill. From there, it was obviously a slippery slope to his becoming the full-on super villain readers will get to know in the months ahead.

Check out the cover art and three-page origin tale below, along with the one-shot's official solicitation text.
