It's the team-up the DC Universe has long dreaded.

Bat-Mite and Mr Mxyzptlk.

And written by Evan Dorkin, the man behind the manic "Milk and Cheese," it's unlikely the two fifth dimensional imps will spend their time together peacefully.

"I know, you're sold already. Me too! But wait, there's more!" Dorkin posted on the America Online DC Comics message boards on Wednesday. "It has a story -- sort of. It's called 'Last Imp Standing,' and it's about Bat-Mite and Mr Mxyzptlk (if you don't know them, they're these two inter-dimensional imps that have the powers of gods and the mental faculties of five year olds. So they're perfect for me to write, right?) Well anyway, you see, well, things kind of get out of hand when they both show up to cause trouble for their favorite super-heroes, and then things sort of escalate from there, and then ... well, you'll have to see for yourselves because it's really stupid and sounds even dumber in cold print."

As for the art team on the project, it's rather involved.

"Because of the overly-complicated nature of this funnybook, the plot for 'World's Funnest' currently requires the services of 18 arteest-types for the separate sequences that make up the book's continuity. I - along with editor Joey Cavalieri - have been secretly contacting artists for the past few weeks via telegraph and carrier pigeon, and against all odds and beyond my wildest expectations, the first seven artists we've asked have verbally agreed to work on the book. So prepare to be AMAZED and MYSTIFIED, friends, for here are the artists who have agreed to work on 'World's Funnest,' even if it permanently damages their careers:

"Mr. Scott Shaw, Mr. Phil Jiminez, Mr. Alex Ross, Mr. Dave Gibbons, Mr. Frank Miller, Mr. Jaime Hernandez, Mr. David Mazzucchelli.

"I swear I'm not lying! Honest I'm not! And we're not done yet, there may be some more surprises in store. Of course, dealing with busy people such as these, there's always a chance someone may drop out of the project, but my fingers are crossed, my prayer books are opened, and we'll see what happens. Right now, Alex Ross has his pages, and he hasn't told me to go sail yet. The entire book is plotted, I'll be finishing the rest of the script within the next 2-4 weeks. I need to hear back from DC on a few aspects of the book, and the format is such that there are technical situations and logistical situations that may affect the final script and project. But basically, there you go. That's the deal. It's 62 pages, it's Bat-Mite and Mxyzptlk, it's a geek-fest and a goof and if all goes well, it'll be pretty funny and have some incredible art from some amazing people. And if it falls apart, I will kill myself."

"P.S. Please buy it when and if it comes out."
