Wondering whatever happened to the mooted sequel to Elvis Vs. The Mummy movie Bubba Ho-Tep? Despite numerous setbacks, it's still going to happen... someday, or so says the man who should know: Colonel Tom Parker himself.

Oh, okay; it's actually Paul Giamatti, who hopes to play Parker if Bubba Nosferatu ever happens. Talking to MTV, he explained that it was just a matter of money:

I think it's just the atmosphere of movies right now, smaller movies. Nobody has the balls to make a movie for under - it's got to be a $40 million comedy or a $200 million 'Avatar,' and that's it... Those are the only things anybody wants to make right now. Nobody wants to do anything else. Everybody's terrified of doing anything else except that kind of thing. So that movie is deemed way too bizarre and outside the box right now. Which is stupid, because there's an audience for that movie, totally.

And that audience, he promises, can rest assured - even without the presence of original Elvis Bruce Campbell, who has left the project (Ron Perlman has been floated as a replacement), the movie will happen even if Giamatti ends up with no backbone because of it:

We've been trying to make that for two, three years, and we're going to get it done at some point. I'm going to fucking break my spine in half if I have to to get that thing done. We've been trying so hard and we've had so many near-misses... It's almost come together like 15 freaking times and then it falls apart. At some point we're going to get that done because it's a great script. We'll get it done at some point.

You have to love a man so dedicated to his work.
