Super 8 star Elle Fanning is in talks to join Angelina Jolie in Maleficent, the live-action Disney film centering on the wicked fairy-sorceress of Sleeping Beauty fame. Heat Vision reports the project is set to begin production in June in London, with Robert Stromberg directing from a script by Linda Woolverton.

Fanning would play Aurora, the beautiful princess cursed by Maleficent so that, before the sun sets on her 16th birthday, she'll prick her finger on a spinning wheel and die. However, another fairy weakens the curse so that the girl will instead fall into a deep sleep from which she can only be awakened by a kiss from her true love.

Maleficent marks the directorial debut for Stromberg, who worked as production designer on Avatar, Alice in Wonderland and the upcoming Oz, the Great and Powerful.

The 13-year-old Fanning most recently appeared in Twixt and We Bought a Zoo.
