UPDATE 4/21/2015 10:25 PM PT: The Deadline article sourced in this story has removed all references to Elizabeth Perkins' character, Vyla Quinncannon, being lead character Jesse Custer's mother.

The announced cast for AMC's "Preacher" pilot has grown once again. Deadline has word that Elizabeth Perkins has been cast in the role of lead character Jesse Custer's mother, Vyla Quinncannon -- which would be a name change from the source material, as Jesse's mother was Christina Custer in the comic books by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon.

Here's the description of Vyla Quinncannon: "A genteel but formidable businesswoman who owns the local slaughterhouse in Annville. Ambitious, strong-willed and terrifying, Vyla shares a past with Jesse's father which gives her a singular hold over Jesse."

This news comes the same day as official confirmation that Dominic Cooper, rumored as the frontrunner for weeks, has been cast as the show's lead. The cast also includes Ruth Negga as Jesse's ex-girlfriend Tulip, Joseph Gilgun as his vampire friend Cassidy, Ian Colletti as Arseface and Lucy Griffiths as Emily, a character created for the TV show.

Seth Rogen, his frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg and "Breaking Bad" alum Sam Catlin developed "Preacher" for AMC, based on the seminal DC Comics/Vertigo series and with a pilot written by Catlin.
