During a Twitter session with fans yesterday, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson teased what we might expect when he suits up to play DC Comics character Black Adam for Warner Bros.' 2019's "Shazam!" film. When asked if there were any of other superheroes or villains he'd like to play, he replied: "Can't wait to play BLACK ADAM. We'll find that anti-hero balance of ruthless rip your throat out [with] wonderful charm."

Before being announced as Black Adam in September, Johnson was rumored to be deciding between playing either Black Adam or the hero, Shazam.

Black Adam was created by Otto Binder and C. C. Beck in 1945, first appearing in "Marvel Family" #1. While the character was created as a foil for Shazam (the character formerly known as Captain Marvel), Black Adam has gone on to play a larger role within the DCU, including as one of the leads in 2006's weekly series "52."

Screenwriter Darren Lemke ("Jack The Giant Slayer", "Shrek Forever After") has been hired to write a "Shazam!" script, but a director and an actor to play Shazam have yet to be announced.

The "Shazam!" film was officially announced as part of the ambitious 10-film slate of DC Comics that begins with 2016's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."
