The world of Warcraft opens up to moviegoers on December 18, 2015, the same day that Disney releases the first film in a new Star Wars trilogy. But based on information that director Duncan Jones revealed over the weekend at BlizzCon 2013, Warcraft appears to be on a much faster track than its rival.
Jones and other members of the Warcraft creative team, including special effects supervisor Bill Westenhofer, revealed a slew of new concept art images (including the above shot of the floating city Dalaran), as well as information about the story itself. According to Jones, fans can expect a tale that focuses just as much on the Orcs of Azeroth as it does on the human heroes.
“It’s about both sides,” the director said, according to Kotaku’s account of the presentation. “It’s going to be red and blue.”
Furthermore, characters in Warcraft include two heroes familiar to fans of the video game series’ earliest editions: Anduin Lothar versus Durotan. Both characters “are protectors of their people” who “want to do the right thing for [their] people” as war looms between both sides.
