DreamWorks Animation and Jeffrey Katzenberg have acquired the rights to Felix the Cat, although Variety reports no specific film plans were announced. Instead, the hope is to transform the classic cartoon character into "one of the most desired fashion brands in the world.”

Created in 1919 by Pat Sullivan's animation studio, possibly by lead animator Otto Messmer, Felix became enormously popular, and expanded into comic strips, comic books and a metric ton of merchandise, including those famous tail-wagging clocks.

DreamWorks in 2012 bought Classic Media, which owned classic characters ranging from Rocky and Bullwinkle to Mr. Magoo to Casper the Friendly Ghost.
