[Editor’s note: Every Sunday, Robot 6 contributors discuss “The best in comics from the last seven days” — from news and announcements to a great comic that came out to something cool creators or fans have done.]

At the start of the week, Locust Moon launched their Kickstarter for their Winsor McKay tribute book Little Nemo: Dream Another Dream, and in less than 48 hours, they passed their $50,000 goal. Currently breaking $75,000, the shear care and beauty of this project is breath-taking. The final book will be a giant hardcover at the oversized 16” x 21” dimensions of McKay’s original comic strip Little Nemo in Slumberland, and will sit perfectly beside the award-winning two-volume Splendid Sundays reprint series from Sunday Press.

Over 100 stellar artists are taking part in this project, and from the looks of the previews shown, each page is a gem. Artists are using McKay’s stunning comic strip as a launch point to showcase their own imaginative playfulness and whimsy, and using fantastically unorthodox storytelling along the way. James Harvey (Masterplasty, Bartkira) has created an amazing journey around a page that celebrates New York City as much as McKay. Gerhard (Cerebus) turned a mistake on a commission into a beautiful menagerie of imagination. Peter Bagge contributed a fun mash-up of Hate’s Buddy with McKay’s Slumberland and its predecessor Dream of the Rarebit Fiend, with a visual nod to the famous Slumberland comic of the bed with the long, wiggly limbs. Roger Langridge’s perfectly silly page explores the other lands visited by Little Nemo (those poor miserable donkeys!). The list of artists just goes on and on, each name triggering more excitement over the possibilities of how they will interpret McKay’s world while incorporating their own fantastic vision. This is a full celebration of the magic of comics, and it’s thrilling to see so many people enthusiastically jump in to support it.
