Robert Downey Jr. may be known these days as billionaire superhero Iron Man, but rumor has it that he’s interested in a much, much cheaper role. Or, at least, one that’ll see him make the most of low budget technical upgrades.
Pajiba reports that Downey may take the lead in The $40,000 Man, a parody of old TV show The Six Million Dollar Man wherein a heroic astronaut is rebuilt by the US government after a terrible accident, but kept within a budget of – you guessed it – $40,000. Sounds more than a little goofy, but it might be of interest to indie comics fans, as the project – which has been kicking around since 2007 – has a script draft that’s been written by Terry Zwigoff and Dan Clowes (Pajiba says that Freaks and Geeks and Bones star John Francis Daly has been hired to rewrite Zwigoff’s “original” script, but they’ve got that the wrong way round; Daly wrote the original, and Zwigoff and Clowes rewrote it later). Between a Clowes script and Downey’s involvement, could this be something worth seeing?
