No sooner did Vin Diesel post a tribute to "The Fast and the Furious" director Rob Cohen than a rumor has sprung up that the action star pushing for the filmmaker to helm "Fast 8."

Posting a photo on Instagram of Cohen with the cast of the 2001 film, Diesel wrote, "The man that introduced me to my producing partner Neal and who cast Jordana as my eternal sister... The one who allowed for such a powerful and blessed love with Michelle... And like a father, had created the brotherhood that would define a millennium.

Rob Cohen... I hear you Pablo..."

Heroic Hollywood was quick to pounce on those comments, and quoted an anonymous source as saying, "What better way to end the last Fast trilogy than with the director who jump started it?"

Diesel, who not only stars in the blockbuster Universal Pictures franchise but also serves as an executive producer, confirmed over the weekend that there will be “one last trilogy to end the saga.” He also clarified that, despite reports to the contrary, no one has been offered the director's chair of "Fast 8."

Cohen, who also worked with Diesel on 2002's "xXx," is attached to direct Ronda Rousey in MGM's "Road House" remake, but as Heroic Hollywood notes, it's not difficult to imagine him trading that project for a return to the "Fast and the Furious" franchise.

"Fast 8" opens April 14, 2017.
