After 19 weeks in theatrical release, Marvel's "Doctor Strange" has ended its North American run with a $232.6 million domestic box office, and $677.6 million worldwide.

That domestic total places director Scott Derrickson's film at No. 9 on the list of Marvel Cinematic Universe releases, between "Thor: The Dark World" and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." "The Avengers," which earned more than $623 million in 2012, still reigns as Marvel's top-grossing film in North America.

"Doctor Strange" was the 13th-highest grossing domestic release of 2016.

Produced for an estimated $165 million, the film ollows the story of world-renowned surgeon Stephen Strange, whose life changes following a career-ending car accident robs him of the use of his hands. When traditional medicine fails him, he searches for healing, and hope, in a mysterious enclave. He soon learns the people there are at the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces determined to destroy reality.

Although no sequel has been announced, Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Stephen Strange in "Thor: Ragnarok,"opening Nov. 17, and "Avengers: Infinity War," arriving May 4, 2018.
