Disney has acquired the film rights to "The Paper Magician," a series of fantasy novels by Charlie N. Holmberg.

Drawing comparisons to "Harry Potter," the young-adult books center on Ceony Twill, a young girl who lives in a world where magicians learn how to animate man-made materials at the Tagis Praff School for the Magically Inclined. After dreaming of working with metal, Ceony is disappointed to learn she's assigned to paper magic. However, when an evil magician emerges, she must tap into the hidden potential of her abilities.

The first novel, "The Paper Magician," was published in September 2014, followed by "The Glass Magician" and "The Master Magician."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Allison Shearmur, whose credits include the "Hunger Games" franchise, Disney's live-action "Cinderella" and the upcoming "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," will produce the adaptation.
