"Star Wars: Episode VIII" was voted the most-anticipated movie of 2017 in a survey that was conducted by Fandango.com (via USA Today). This is the second year in a row that a "Star Wars" film topped the survey, as "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" was crowned the most-anticipated film of 2016.

"Episode VIII" is the second film in the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy, which takes place after 2015's "The Force Awakens." It will hit movie theaters Dec. 15, keeping with Disney's tradition of releasing a new "Star Wars" film right around the Holiday Season.

Fandango conducted the survey the week of Dec. 19 and polled more than 2,000 site visitors, who described themselves as frequent moviegoers. The survey included all films that are scheduled for a national release.

"'Episode VIII' is looking to be the movie event of 2017, just as 'Rogue One' was the movie event of 2016. Disney keeps doing this every year," Erik Davis, Managing Editor of Fandango.com, said in the report. "They concentrate on that 'Star Wars' moment and each year it explodes."

Following "Episode VIII" was Disney and Marvel Studios' "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." Disney's live-action "Beauty and the Beast" took the No. 3 spot -- leaving Walt Disney Studios with the top three most-anticipated movies of 2017, according to Fandango.

Other superhero movies that topped the Fandango survey included "Wonder Woman," at No. 4, "Spider-Man: Homecoming," at No. 5, "Justice League," at No. 6, and the final Wolverine movie starring Hugh Jackman, "Logan," at No. 9.

Chris Pratt took the top spot as the most-anticipated actor in a separate poll. "Wonder Woman" also topped several polls -- Gal Godot reached the top spot in a rising female movie star poll, and Wonder Woman was ranked the most-anticipated comic book character in a film releasing in 2017.

"People have been waiting for this female-led superhero movie, and this love only grew when we saw Wonder Woman revealed in 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,'" Davis said. "She will pack a big punch in her solo outing."
