Disney Readies ‘Dumbo’ For Live Action Take-Off

Disney’s has big, live-action plans for a little elephant named Dumbo. Variety reports that screenwriter Ehren Kruger, whose credits include Reindeer Games, The Ring and Transformers: Age of Extinction, has been hired to tackled the script.

Debuting in 1941, the animated classic follows a young circus elephant separated from his mother who discovers that his large, ire-raising ears actually make him special because he can use them to fly.

Dumbo not only inspired a beloved ride at the Disney theme parks, but also a live-action Disney Channel series Dumbo’s Circus in the mid-1980s.

Maleficent, Disney’s live-action retelling of Sleeping Beauty from the villain’s perspective, has grossed $631 million worldwide to date, proving that the studio’s animated library remains lucrative. Disney, which in 1996 remade 101 Dalmatians (and released a sequel), is also developing a live-action take on The Jungle Book.
