Cory and Topanga are returning to a small screen near you! The stars of ABC’s ’90s coming-of-age comedy Boy Meets World, Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel, are officially heading to the Disney Channel along with their family, friends and tween daughter, Deadline reports.
The follow-up Girl Meets World has been in the works since last fall. Savage and Fishel signed on to return as childhood sweethearts Cory and Topanga, who have grown up and now have their own child. Much like her father, Riley (Rowan Blanchard) finds herself navigating the transition between childhood and teen life with the help of a best friend, in her case Maya Fox (Sabrina Carpenter).
Savage and Fishel will be pulling double duty on the show, not only acting as parents, but also important parts of their daughter’s life as the school’s new history teacher and the owner of an after-school hangout, respectively. Many other stars from the original series are expected to return, William Daniels’ Mr. Feeny, who reportedly shows up in the pilot. Speaking of returning talent, Boy Meets World creators Michael Jacobs and April Kelly developed the show with Jacobs set to produce.
Now that the show is moving to series, Disney is looking to launch production this summer and get it on air early next year.
