The 2017 D23 Expo will kick off July 14 in Anaheim, California, leading some to already speculate whether Disney is poised to take on Comic-Con International.

Although Comic-Con has yet to announce dates for 2017, the convention is always held in mid- to late July in San Diego. Disney's first D23 Expo, in 2011, was held in September, but all of those since then have taken place in August.

Set for July 14-16 at the Anaheim Convention Center, the biennial Disney fan event brings together the media giant's theme park, music, gaming, television and movie properties -- including "Star Wars," Pixar and Marvel -- under one roof.

The 2017 expo (the fifth) will include the Disney Legends Ceremony, honoring those who have made significant contributions to the Disney legacy; a new exhibit curated by the Walt Disney Archives; and the "Mousequerade" costume contest.

Advance tickets for D23 Expo 2017 will go on sale July 14, 2016, at D23Expo.com.
