Director Matthew Vaughn Picks Up Max Barry’s Thriller Lexicon

If you’re a fan of Australian author Max Barry and his previous books Jennifer Government, Syrup and Machine Man, there’s a good sign about his upcoming novel Lexicon: Deadline reports that after reading an advance copy, X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn has optioned the book for a movie.

Barry explained the story on his website last month: “It is about a secret persuasion society that builds and deploys words as weapons. The people who wield these words are known as poets; the story centers around a young woman who is recruited into their ranks, and the man she falls in love with. Which you are not allowed to do, as a poet. I could explain why, but I’m not going to. Just trust me.”

Vaughn plans to adapt the book to a screenplay and also direct, but right now he’s busy preparing for the sequel to X-Men: First Class, which begins shooting in January.
