"Iron Man 3" director Shane Black recently said he wants Dwayne Johnson to star in "Doc Savage," leaving the long-simmering adaptation on the back burner until the actor's busy schedule could open up. It now looks as if that will happen sometime next year.
Posting a photo of his work area in the house he's using while on location in Georgia, Johnson wrote, "On the iPad I'm reading an outline for a cool movie I'll make in 2017 (with director Shane Black)."
That certainly syncs up with Black's timeline. "I would very much like to do ‘Doc’ with a fellow named Dwayne Johnson, if we can make that work," the filmmaker said in March. "I made a decision that Dwayne is the guy." And it seems Johnson has decided "Doc Savage" is the movie.
Black, who signed on in 2013 to co-write and direct the Sony Pictures project, has called it “a personal film.” He even went so far as to define the attributes of the actor he envisioned to play the Man of Bronze, effectively describing Johnson.
“They kind of gotta be tall. He’s the perfect physical specimen and when people look at him, they’re overawed by the sort of symmetry and perfection he exudes," Black said in 2013. "You need someone magnetic and someone a little bit off because that’s the fun of the character. He’s been secluded from people and kept from any social niceties for so long that he’s become a savant.”
