Actors on comic book properties love dropping hints and red herrings about their shows on social media, thus stirring up fan speculation. "Arrow's" Stephen Amell sure knows this, and so does "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s" Clark Gregg. Earlier this week, the leading man posted an image to his Facebook page that could hint at an appearance from avenging archer Hawkeye on the ABC drama.

The image -- which comes from "Secret Avengers" #10 by writer Ales Kot and artist Michael Walsh -- depicts Hawkeye and Coulson in a standoff, which gun and bow both at the ready.

An appearance from Jeremy Renner's Avenger doesn't seem that far-fetched. Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders and Jaimie Alexander have all reprised their big screen Marvel roles on the television series, and some of those appearances were tied to events from the feature films. "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." showrunners Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen have already revealed that their series will tie-in with "Avengers: Age of Ultron" later in the show's season.

"You should expect something," Whedon told EW.com earlier this month. "'The Avengers' is the big tent that all the franchises play under. Obviously, we're included in that."

"I don't think any movie has the potential to impact us in the way that 'Captain America 2' did," added Tancharoen, "but there will be connections."

Renner also discussed a potential "S.H.I.E.L.D." cameo during a Reddit AMA session in October.

"I guess, again -- those are questions that are tough to really answer, because it's above my pay grade, haha!" wrote Renner. "It's not something I sit and think about. But I suppose if it was offered up, there's an outside chance it could happen. I haven't seen the show, so I don't know how it works, but I'm sure the folks at Marvel have ideas, and when they're strong enough, they'll bring 'em to me. But I love me some Clark Gregg, he's so great. We killed him and brought him back to life to do Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., he's so good!"

If Renner does make an appearance on the show, the episode could include a meeting between Hawkeye and Adrianne Palicki's Mockingbird. In the comics, Hawkeye and Mockingbird have been romantically linked off and on for over thirty years; the two were even married for much of the 1980s "West Coast Avengers" series. "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." returns from its winter hiatus in March.
