Stan Lee cruises around New York City in a new promo for Marvel’s The Defenders that ponders the nature of heroes, and may hint at the inclusion of The Punisher in the Netflix miniseries.
The minute-long teaser depicts Lee riding in the back of a limousine, with the license number “5TAN L33,” catching passing glimpses of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist in action.

“They’re the greatest stories ever told,” the 94-year-old writer and editor says in voiceover. “Heroes show us we don’t need to be perfect to do what’s right. It’s not about living without fear, but facing injustice. It’s not about being powerful, but finding your calling. When you least expect it, they show us it’s OK to be vulnerable — no matter how tough you are. Because, even though they’re heroes, they’re still human.”
As this is Marvel, we have to watch past the “credits” — or, in this case, the logos — to see Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle emerge from the shadows, saying, “Looks like I got here just in time.”
Whether that stinger serves merely to promote The Punisher or is an indication that Castle will indeed pop up on The Defenders remains to be seen. Presumably details will be forthcoming this weekend at Comic-Con International in San Diego.
Arriving Aug. 18 on Netflix, the eight-episode Defenders stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, Finn Jones as Danny Rand, Elodie Yung as Elektra Natchios, Sigourney Weaver as Alexandra, Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse, Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth, Scott Glenn as Stick, Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing.
