Dean Cain Wants to Revive Lois & Clark for 5th Season

From X-Files to Twin Peaks, new seasons of classic ’90s genre shows have proven pretty popular recently. It’s perhaps little surprise, then, that Dean Cain, star of that his own fan-favorite ’90s show Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, is keen to continue that trend with a revival of the series.

In a recent interview on the Australian news channel 7 News Sydney the former Superman explained that the show’s cliff-hanger Season 4 finale, in which newlyweds Lois and Clark are confronted with the sudden appearance of a mysterious baby, was not intended to mark the show’s end.

“Well, you know what, we ended our show after four seasons in a weird way because we’re supposed to do a fifth season,” Cain recounted. “Teri [Hatcher] got pregnant in between and couldn’t work on that fifth season, so they decided to shut it down. I would have liked to done that fifth season, I think we still need a fifth season, we need something, at least part of a fifth season. So I’m hoping that we get a chance to maybe finish up the series.”

It appears the notion is more than just idle talk on Cain’s part, apparently he’s already discussed the idea with his former co-star Hatcher, and the pair have both recently returned to the wider world of Kryptonian immigrants on The CW’s current Supergirl TV series. Cain also has a number of ideas on what form a revived fifth season could take.

“Maybe it’s six episodes, maybe it’s 10 episodes, maybe it’s a two-hour movie.” Cain said. “But I think it would be really interesting to catch up with these two characters 20 years down the line and see what’s happened in their lives. If they have had children or what’s going on with their kids, I think it’s really interesting and I’m certainly willing to.”

Returning Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT this fall on The CW, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as the Girl of Steel, David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers and Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott, with appearances by Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant and Tyler Hoechlin as Superman.
