A recent ComicBook.com report claiming that next year's Deadpool 2 would serve as the launching point for a future X-Force film has been shot down by a source close to the project. Rhett Reese, who co-wrote the first Deadpool as well as its upcoming sequel, took to Twitter and abruptly put an end to the rumor stating that X-Force regulars Sunspot, Feral, and Shatterstar would all be teased during a Deadpool 2 post-credits sequence:

The report made logical sense given that one of the sequel's confirmed new characters, Cable (to be portrayed by Josh Brolin) led the X-Force unit in the comics. Deadpool 2 also seem a natural soundboard for Fox to advertise upcoming X-Men projects, given the commercial success of the first film. The Merc with a Mouth is practically the unofficial face of the studio's mutant universe following the retirement of long-time Wolverine actor, Hugh Jackman.

Arriving in theaters on June 1, 2018, Deadpool 2 will see the return of Ryan Reynolds, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, Karan Soni and Leslie Uggams, along with newcomer Zazie Beetz as Domino. The film is directed by John Wick’s David Leitch, and while little has been said in regards to an X-Force film, fans have other X-related films headed their way. Fox has slated April 13, 2018 as the release date for director Josh Boone’s New Mutants, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix flies into theaters Nov. 2, 2018.
