According to The Hollywood Reporter, Josh Brolin has been tapped to play fan-favorite mutant Cable in "Deadpool 2." No stranger to comic book movies, Brolin has played Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and starred as the eponymous Jonah Hex in the 2010 DC Comics-based film. Brolin's deal reportedly locks him in for four movies.

Brolin's casting follows months of speculation surrounding Cable's live-action portrayal, with such names as Michael Shannon, David Harbour, Russell Crowe, and even Brad Pitt, on the shortlist to play the gun-slinging mutant.

An Oscar-nominee for his role in 2009's "Milk," Brolin is also part of the ensemble cast of Joseph Kosinski’s "Granite Mountain," opening in theaters September 22, and is set to star in the Benicio del Toro-led "Sicario" sequel, "Soldado." Brolin will also appear in George Clooney's "Suburbicon" and "The Legacy of the Whitetail Deer Hunter," which open November 3 and December 25, respectively. Some of Brolin's other credit include "W," "No Country for Old Men," "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps," "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For," "Planet Terror" and "The Goonies."

Cable debuted in 1986 as Nathan Summers, the son of Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor, a clone of the psychic Jean Grey, in “Uncanny X-Men” #201. The character first appeared as an adult operating under the moniker of Cable in 1990 in “New Mutants” #87. He’s known best as the leader of X-Force, which has also counted Domino and Deadpool among its members. The introduction of Cable and Domino in “Deadpool” 2 will help to pave the way for Fox’s planned “X-Force” film franchise.

Arriving in theaters in 2018, “Deadpool 2” will see the return of Ryan Reynolds, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand and Karan Soni, along with newcomer Zazie Beetz as Domino. The film is directed by "John Wick's" David Leitch.
