Deadpool 2 star Josh Brolin shared a photo on his Instagram account today of the makeup process involved with transforming the actor into the film’s time traveling mutant hero Cable.
The photo sees Brolin joined by makeup artists Bill Corso and Mike Smithson, with the right side of his face covered in blue prosthetics. Cable, of course, is known for having had this side of his body taken over by a techno-organic virus, leaving him with a half-cyborg appearance, complete with his signature glowing eye.
Brolin’s message with the post reads, “Insanity on the brink. Face is morphing into something machine, fierce, hair sliced, arm machined, bulged. Where is Deadpool?!? Looking. Looking. All I got are these two…molding me, prodding, turning me into something hard.”
Cable debuted in 1986 as Nathan Summers, the son of Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor, a clone of the psychic Jean Grey, in Uncanny X-Men #201. The character first appeared as an adult operating under the moniker of Cable in 1990 in New Mutants #87. He’s known best as the leader of X-Force, which has also counted Domino and Deadpool among its members. The introduction of Cable and Domino in Deadpool 2 will help to pave the way for Fox’s planned X-Force film franchise.
Brolin previously shared a photo of a Cable haircut along with an image from a gym, touting his training — and insanely large guns — in preparation for his Cable role. He’s also teased some of the motion-capture work going into his performance as the villainous Mad Titan Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.
Arriving in theaters June 1, 2018, Deadpool 2 will see the return of Ryan Reynolds, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand and Karan Soni, along with newcomer Zazie Beetz as Domino. The film is directed by John Wick’s David Leitch.
