Deadpool 2 Writer Shoots Down Domino Casting Rumor

No sooner did a rumor surface of a new frontrunner to play Domino in the “Deadpool” sequel than one of the filmmakers has shot it down.

Following a report on Wednesday that “Moonlight” star Janelle Monáe had supplanted the (also rumored) Kerry Washington as the favorite to join Ryan Reynolds in the Fox film, co-writer Rhett Reese replied simply, “Wrong.”

Rheese, who wrote “Deadpool” and the upcoming sequel with “Zombieland” collaborator Paul Wernick and served as a producer of the first film, presumably is in a position to know.

Speculation about the casting of Domino in “Deadpool 2” lags only slightly behind that about Cable, a role that’s been linked to everyone from Kyle Chandler to Russell Crowe to “Stranger Things” star David Harbour.

Created by Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld, Domino has a long, and sometimes complicated, history with X-Men, X-Force, Deadpool and Cable, who has been her partner and lover. The product of a top-secret government program to develop the perfect weapon, she is an expert marksman and hand-to-hand combatant with the mutant ability to alter probability within her line of sight, creating “good luck” for herself and “bad luck” for her opponents.

Directed by David Leitch (“John Wick”), the “Deadpool” sequel see Reynolds reprise his role as the Merc With a Mouth, joined (so far) by Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Karan Soni as Dopinder and, presumably, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus. The film is targeted for release in 2018.
