SPOILER WARNING: This article contains spoilers for the second season premiere of “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” “Out of Time.”
The second season of “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” premiered Thursday night, and with it, numerous other characters from The CW‘s Arrowverse. Not that that’s a surprise. It had already been established that Green Arrow would play a crucial role in the episode, helping Dr. Nate Heywood, a.k.a. Citizen Steel (Nick Zano), locate the Legends after several small changes to history start appearing out of the blue.
We also knew that the Justice Society of America would be featured heavily, as first hinted at by Hourman’s cameo in season 1’s finale. Tonight, the rest of the gang — Stargirl (Sarah Grey), Doctor Mid-Nite (Kwesi Ameyaw), Commander Steel (Matthew McCaull), and an alternate version of Vixen (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) — made their triumphant entrance at the tail end of the episode.
But the biggest reveal (and the only one we didn’t know much about, really) came not with some new yet familiar heroes, but some new yet familiar villains. Much of the episode takes place in 1942, and it turns out the Nazis are in cahoots with none other than Damien Darhk (the great Neal McDonough) and Reverse-Flash (Matt Letscher). While the latter was previously hinted at in a blink-and-you-miss it shot in one of the teasers, their team-up becomes the episode’s most exciting surprise.
In other words, cue The Beach Boys, because it looks like there are a whole lot of heroes and villains from the Arrowverse this season of “Legends of Tomorrow.”
