While the main DC Universe is concerned with Sixth Dimensions, Doomsday Clocks and a year filled with dastardly villains, the limited series DCeased is examining what would happen if a zombie-like outbreak from Apokolips hit the world.DCeased takes place outside of main DC continuity, which frees it up to feature the deaths and violent turns of many fan-favorite heroes such as Darkseid, Batman and Nightwing -- and that's just in the first issue. Now, with issue #2 just around the corner, series writer Tom Taylor has shared the issue's retailer variant cover. The cover by Jay Anacleto homages superstar artist Adam Hughes' iconic cover of Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes #23. While the original cover features Kara Zor-El smiling as she sits on an asteroid, the DCeased #2 retailer variant gives a gruesome twist on the image: Supergirl sits on an asteroid breaking apart with fire. On top of it, a raging and bloody Kara is clearly under the effects of the Apokolipsian virus.
In DCeased, Darkseid's experiments on Cyborg and the Anti-Life Equation led to the creation of the Anti-Life Virus. Transmitted through digital devices and the Internet, the virus spread like wildfire on social media, infecting millions of people all over the world.
DCeased #2 by Tom Taylor, Trevor Hairsine and Stefano Guadiano goes on sale June 5.
