Death is coming for Wally West...

Since his dramatic return just over a year ago in the pages of the DC Universe: Rebirth one-shot, the original Kid Flash's life has consisted of one massive shock to the system after another. His inability to help the love of his life Linda Park remember he existed, much less that they were married and had children, has plagued the hero. And while he appears to have found some solace in the form of his growing romance with teammate Donna Troy, that happiness has been severely undercut by the revelation that a time-traveling Damian Wayne/Robin's actions have resulted in a weakening of Wally's heart. To be blunt, whenever Wally uses his speed, he risks a heart attack.

Now, the solicitation copy for October's Titans #16 hints that the red-headed hero's short time in the Rebirth universe may be up. The issue's description, accompanied by cover art featuring the New 52 Wally West standing over his cousin's grave, states, "After suffering a major cardiac episode due to his weakened heart, Wally West is dead…or is he?"

Of course, this could, and likely is, a big tease, and both Wally Wests may be completely safe from the great hereafter. Indeed, the cover art, featuring Wally's "ghost" reaching out to his younger cousin would indicate that he's not really going to die. That said, Rebirth is shaping up to become a Crisis-level event, and it's well documented that Flashes and their heroic deaths are a staple of DC Comics' mega-event storytelling. So even if we're seeing a fake-out in the pages of Titans, Wally fans may not be ready to breathe a sigh of relief until their hero is firmly entrenched in the post-Rebirth era.
