WB Games Montréal showed up for DC FanDome to unveil its next major video game project, which -- in the lead-up to the big event -- was widely speculated to be centered on Batman and the Court of Owls.

The panel started with Zachary Levi, who expressed his love for video games. He then debuted footage from the game, which begins with a news broadcast seemingly declaring Bruce Wayne dead. The Bat-family then sees a recording from Batman, confirming if they're seeing it, he is dead. The Bat-family members shown here include Tim Drake, Barabara Gordon, Jason Todd and Dick Grayson.

Batman wishes them luck and we then cut to the team suiting up as Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing and Red Hood. Each character is shown highlighting their fighting abilities.

"From vigilantes to heroes," text reads. "From heroes to knights." The title is then revealed as Gotham Knights, coming in 2021, as we see a final stinger teasing the Court of Owls, complete with a comic book-accurate nursery rhyme about The Talon.

Up next, we hear from the game's developers, who explain players will be able to grow the characters as they see fit. "You're not trying to become the new Batman, you're becoming your own Badass superhero."

The devs then reveal some actual gameplay footage. We see Batgirl racing on the Bat-cycle to take on Mr. Freeze, eliminating several of his thugs with ease.

She then makes her way up an icy structure with Red Robin, who split up to take out more henchmen inside.

Eventually, they reach Freeze, whom Batgirl and Red Robin double team in a frigid lair as the footage ends.

Levi then takes questions from fans. One asks what goes into deciding the characters.

"We chose characters who resonate with players," one of the devs said. "We looked for characters who offered players a unique starting point a long runway for growth."

Another fan asked for more details on the game.

"The belfry will be a very important location in Gotham Knights," we learned, as well as the fact that "The mystery is way bigger than the Court of Owls."
