The Associated Press reports this morning that Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's next major "Batman" story looks to the past -- "Zero Year," to be specific.

"We tried to preserve as much of Batman's history as we could and keep what we could of this history intact," Snyder told the AP. "It's 'The Zero Year,' the one that no one has told the story of before. We see how Bruce became the Batman, built the cave, faced off with his first super villain.

"It's not 'let's redo the origin. It's time for a new story showing how Batman became who he is in the New 52."

While the interview doesn't specify who the Dark Knight will go toe to toe with as he hones his developing super hero career in the 11-issue storyline, Snyder has expressed a distinct interest in one member of Batman's famous rogues gallery in particular.

"The stories that we have planned firmly are really ['Death of the Family' and] the big story after it, which is sort of the -- a really different kind of story that Greg's gonna do with me," Snyder told CBR TV during the 2012 Comic-Con International. "and in that one, you'll see a lot more about Riddler -- and a couple of the other Rogues as well. "
