August marks the 100th birthday anniversary of legendary comic book artist, writer and editor Jack Kirby, and DC Comics looks to honor the late creator with a series of one-shots inspired by his most famous heroes, villains and super-teams.

DC Comics announced the one-shot series via a DC All Access video posted to YouTube. According to the video, the six one-shots will be released throughout the month of August, with at least one new one-shot published every week.

The one-shots will focus on heroes, villains and story arcs created by Kirby during his extensive run at DC Comics. Darkseid, the New Gods and Manhunter will be among the characters explored in the one-shots. Promotional art was released alongside the announcement.

Born August 28, 1917, Kirby left Marvel Comics in 1970 to create his Fourth World saga at DC Comics. While at DC Comics, Kirby created such series as New Gods, Mister Miracle and The Forever People. Kirby would later go on to create OMAC (One Man Army Corps), Kamandi, The Demon and Kobra.

While at Marvel Comics, Kirby frequently paired with writer Stan Lee. Together, the duo created many of the most widely-known Marvel characters and teams to date, including the Hulk, Thor, Iron Man and the X-Men.
