The DC Comics June 2014 Solicitations may have just hit earlier this week, but it looks like the publisher is getting a jump start on teasing new developments for July already. DCComics.com has posted details about two new July projects: “Harley Quinn Invades San Diego Comic-Con” written by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti, announced at the publisher’s Retailer Roadshow in Florida; and a “Star-Spangled War Stories” ongoing series by Palmiotti and Justin Gray with art by Scott Hampton, announced via DCComics.com.
While “Harley Quinn Invades San Diego Comic-Con” is pretty self-explanatory in terms of plot — the title pretty much says it all — the first arc of “Star-Spangled War Stories” will focus on a soldier known as “G.I. Zombie” that goes on a mission in the western United States to deal with a gang buying up all the weapons in the surrounding states. No further details about the series were revealed.
A new “Harley Quinn” one-shot timed for release around Comic-Con International 2014 is an understandable move by the publisher considering the strength of Palmiotti, Conner and artist Chad Hardin. Every issue of the series so far has broken the top ten bestselling issues of the month, with the exception of “Harley Quinn” #3, which clocked in at #11 in February.
Both the “Harley Quinn” one-shot and “Star-Spangled War Stories” #1 hit stands in July.
