Director David Ayer may have delivered the first clue regarding who the villain will be in Warner Bros.' "Gotham City Sirens" ensemble film by tweeting an image of Gotham crime boss Black Mask saying the words, "I heard. It's just the street stuff. It's not worth my time."

This should all be taken with a grain of salt, of course. Though Ayer provided no additional commentary, certain connective dots can be made between Black Mask and a rumored member of the "Gotham City Sirens" cast: Catwoman. The pair have a long, storied history in the comics, with Roman Sionis constantly putting Selina Kyle's loved ones in danger. Catwoman even killed Black Mask in the pre-New 52 DC Universe, though he was resurrected during the "Blackest Night" event series which saw the vigilante recruit Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy to battle the mob boss.

This isn't the first time Ayer has taken to Twitter to deliver a tease of what's to come in "Gotham City Sirens." The director confirmed his involvement with the DC project by tweeting an image of titular Gotham City Sirens Poison Ivy, Catwoman, and Harley Quinn. For now, fans will have to wait and see if more can be made of this particular image...

Margot Robbie is set to reprise her “Suicide Squad” role as Harley Quinn and will also executive produce the film through her first-look deal with Warner Bros. She reportedly pitched the idea for the film to the studio. Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who is working on scripts for the “Tomb Raider” remake as well as “Sherlock Holmes 3,” has been tapped to write the script. “Gotham City Sirens” does not yet have a release date, but it has reportedly been fast-tracked.
