It’s already been rumored that a young Han Solo could make a cameo in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” but there’s a good chance he won’t be the only character from the original trilogy to appear.
Fan site Making Star Wars contends Darth Vader will play a role in the Gareth Edwards film, which centers on the desperate Rebel mission to steal the plans for the first Death Star.
Sculptor Brian Muir, who famously created Darth Vader’s helmet and armor for “Star Wars: A New Hope,” confirmed in November that he would be working on “Rogue One.” Making Star Wars reports he and his team have produced a costume so close to the original that “everyone is very happy and very impressed.”
The website adds that James Earl Jones, who recently reprised his role as the voice of Darth Vader for “Star Wars Rebels,” will return for “Rogue One.”
Whether any of that’s true remains to be seen, of course, but an appearance by Darth Vader certainly makes sense. The film is set shortly before the events of “A New Hope,” so the Sith Lord’s absence from the story would be glaring. His inclusion, even if only as a cameo, would also connect nicely to his pursuit of the plans in the opening minutes of the 1977 film.
Opening Dec. 16, “Rogue One” stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen and Alan Tudyk.
