New Dark Phoenix Image Shows a Battered and Bruised Team

A new official still from Dark Phoenix shows the X-Men recovering from a battle and taking sides.

The X-Men will be tested like never before in the upcoming Dark Phoenix and threatens to split the mutant team right down the middle.

A new official still posted on the Fox film's Instagram account shows a faction of the team after the battle, with Magneto, Beast and newcomer Red Lotus looking particularly worse for the wear.

The image was briefly seen in the first trailer for the film with the photo's caption suggesting a schism within the mutant superhero community following Xavier's handling of the Jean Grey's destructive potential with Beast, Storm and Nightcrawler aligning themselves with Magneto instead of Professor X.

In addition to Andrew Stehlin's Red Lotus, the image also offers the first clear look at Kota Eberhardt as the longtime X-Men villain Selene. What role these two new characters will play in the film has yet to be seen.

Written and directed by X-franchise veteran Simon Kinberg, Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters and Jessica Chastain. The film is scheduled to be released on June 7.
