As expected, the first preview for Dark Night: Metal #1 features Batman and his fellow Justice Leagues, but it also provides a look at a few surprising faces as well. Not only does it involve the original Challengers of the Unknown and Red Tornado, Starman -- the Will Payton incarnation from the early '90s -- makes a cameo appearance!

The first issue of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's Batman-fueled event looks to set up some pretty big events, and you can't get much bigger than introducing a previously unknown area of the Multiverse. Throughout the series, Snyder and Capullo will send the Justice League and friends on an adventure that leads to the discovery of the Dark Multiverse, so it probably shouldn't be a surprise to see the map form Multiversal make an appearance in the preview below.

Written by Scott Snyder and illustrated by Greg Capullo, Dark Nights: Metal is described as the former Batman team’s “rock ‘n’ roll epic.” According to DC Co-Publisher Dan DiDio, the entire DC Universe is at risk in the event. “Not even just our world,” he said, “but multiple worlds at risk.” The story will examine every choice a hero doesn’t take and every path they don’t walk, opening up worlds that are forged by nightmares, and characters and stories from each of the “Dark Matter” books will be plotted throughout this series.
