Even as the first clip debuts for "The Dark Knight Rises," early tracking places the conclusion of director Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy on a course to eclipse the $158.4 million debut of 2008's "The Dark Knight" to secure the biggest 2D opening of all time.

The 30-clip, introduced by star Gary Oldman last night on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," features Commissioner Gordon (Oldman) being questioned by Officer John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) in front of the shattered Bat-Signal about the disappearance of Batman years earlier. "Don't you want to know who he was?" Blake asks. "I know exactly who he was," Gordon responds. "He was the Batman."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, plenty of potential movie-goers know who he is, too: Pre-release tracking figures show unaided awareness for "The Dark Knight Rises" is 19, compared with 20 for Marvel's blockbuster "The Avengers." It received 30 for first choice, versus 33 for "The Avengers." "The Dark Knight" inched ahead of the Joss Whedon film in the definite-interest category, however, with 66 versus 65.

The trade paper notes that although the Nolan film won't enjoy the benefit of 3D ticket prices, it should draw crowds into IMAX theaters.

Warner Bros. has also released a new full-length trailer for the upcoming film that's certain to choke up a few devoted Batman fans. Entitled "Journey," the trailer serves as a retrospective for Nolan's full "Batman" trilogy and contains new snippets of dialogue and footage.

Opening July 20, "The Dark Knight Rises" also stars Christian Bale as Batman, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Tom Hardy as Bane, Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tale, Michael Caine as Alfred and Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox.
