Dark Horse Comics solicitations for product shipping March, 2002

Dark Horse Comics solicitations for product shipping March, 2002

This month Dark Horse puts the spotlight on Cliff Richards. Not only is he working on four different Buffy the Vampire Slayer book, but he’s also doing the art for the new Scorpion King mini-series. If you’d like to learn a little more about Cliff check out our feature below.

by now you probably know that Cliff is the regular artist on our monthly Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic-book series. But aside from that, there’s not much that’s “regular” about him. In fact, in terms of the quality of his work, his work ethic, and how quickly he can get a job done well, Cliff is nothing short of outstanding. In fact, this month alone, you’ll find five comics and graphic novels illustrated by Cliff in this section, which is why we’ve decided to name March “Cliff Richards Month” at Dark Horse!

“I can’t say enough about what Cliff has done for the Buffy comics,” said Dark Horse’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel editor, Scott Allie. “He nails likenesses like no one else can, and that’s one of the more important elements of publishing a series based on television characters fans love so much. I’d use him on every book I edit, if I could, and you can tell that this month I almost made it happen.”

Cliff was born in 1964 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and began drawing at a very early age. Although he never finished a formal art class as a kid, and his high school teachers tried to warn him that his art “wouldn’t take him anywhere,” Cliff persevered and took jobs illustrating for advertising companies while waiting for his big break in the field he always wanted to work in – comics.

Cliff has been living his dream for several years now, illustrating titles as diverse as Ghost, Star Wars, and Buffy for Dark Horse, as well as occasionally illustrating trading cards and projects for smaller publishers. This month you’ll see his dandy handywork on a handful of Buffy the Vampire Slayer titles, and on an all-new miniseries for Dark Horse, The Scorpion King.

ART OF COMIC-BOOK INKING VOL. 2 TP

by GARY MARTIN

Gary Martin’s The Art of Comic-Book Inking has become an industry-standard how-to guide for ink artists, but Gary hasn’t been resting on his laurels. Since AoCBI’s release, Gary has discussed his book with hundreds of inkers, aspiring and professional, and now he’s produced an accompanying volume to fulfill inkers’ most common requests. The Art of Comic-Book Inking II includes new sections regarding the inking of animation-styled pencils and how to problem-solve a myriad of common inking headaches, plus a handy compendium of textures and effects to give any inking assignment variety and verve. And in this volume, another small army of top professional black-fingered maestros – Martin, Karl Kesel, Alex Garner, Al Gordon, Rachel Dodson, Steve Leialoha, Randy Emberlin, Michael Bair, and Mike Royer – tackle the pencil art of four artists – Terry Dodson, Brent Anderson, Adam Warren, and Randy Green – each with vastly different styles that create diverse embellishing challenges. And each of these pencilled pages is included, reproduced in non-photo blue on full-size, high-quality art board so that every aspiring inker can try their own approach and have potential professional samples ready for action!

The SMASH hit comics series by Joss Whedon comes to a stunning conclusion!

A portrait showing the hero at their best, at their strongest. A portrait not only to memorialize their death, but also increase their legend. A portrait like this cover.

Or maybe we just didn’t want to give away what happens inside the book.
